The 2024 cycle presented a rare opportunity for New York State to make an impact at the federal level. Of the House seats won by President Biden in 2020 but carried by congressional Republicans in 2024, 6 were in New York. Drawing on our experience in New York, WomenLead identified five seats we felt we could win through early investments in engaging and then turning out low-propensity voters. The congressional districts identified for early investment included NY-3 and NY-4 on Long Island; NY-7 in NYC; NY-17, NY-19 in the Hudson Valley; and NY-22 in Central New York. 

With the benefit of that early investment, WomenLead helped flip 4 seats from red to blue in a year where nationally the headwinds worked against Democrats. We believe a lot of this success in New York is because of the commitment to start early and be on the ground starting in 2023, over a year before Election Day.

Our Strategy
Rooted in WomenLead’s work in New York State since 2018 and our success in 2024, our focus is on field: cultivating and turning out unregistered and newly registered voters. The key to success is starting early and meeting voters where they are, at their door or in their communities.
